ARCH 652: Spaces of Healthcare

Spaces of Healthcare:

Perspectives from the Past and the Present

Instructor: Uğurgül Tunç, PhD

This taught module introduces postgraduate students to the history and socio-spatial aspects of healthcare institutions from a variety of perspectives including, but not limited to, the theories put forward by Michel Foucault, Henri Lefebvre, William H. Whyte, Edward Soja, and David Harvey.

Towards a publication...

As part of this course, students work on a research project throughout the semester and present their findings during the last two weeks of classes.

The final versions of their research papers are submitted after the classes end. The student papers from Fall 2025 will be featured in the upcoming issue of the Cellar Architectural Journal.
